Helmut Lang biker trousers from S/S 1999. In excellent used condition. Made in Italy.

The late 1990s mark an important transition in Helmut Lang's work. His streetwear designs are increasingly becoming more layered and abstract, often with subtle references to subcultural styles. While the S/S 1999 runway maintained a rather minimalist tone, many of the garments that were showcased were subversively adorned with interior harnesses and asymmetric strapped details. This pair of biker trousers was one of the Lang's signature pieces for 1999. It and was shown in both winter and summer collections, worn by both men and women in most runway looks.

The trousers are made from Lang's signature soft cotton moleskin, a tightly woven twill with a slightly brushed finish. Although they are from the women's line, their unisex style and sizing make them undeniably unisex.  They have a slim cut with a narrow leg. Their impressive construction produces a sharp three-dimensional shape, and they exhibit a multitude of classic Helmut Lang detailing. The knees feature rows of biker-inspired ribbing and darts, which produce a sharp articulated cut that follows the lines of the body. The waist features Helmut Lang's signature strap adjusters, with polished silver hardware. The ankles have heavy metal zips. The front pockets are made from the same panel as the waistband and front leg, demonstrating Lang's excellent patternwork.

Overall, the attention to detail of these trousers is exceptional. The panelled areas on the legs are actually padded like real biker trousers, while the crotch features an additional protective panel. The waist features Lang's iconic concealed change pocket and multiple straps for hanging. All seams are expertly finished with tonal tape binding to prevent fraying and the pockets are lined in grey textured fabric. The fly closes with a zip, a concealed snap and a button to prevent uneven stretching. 

One of Lang's most coveted and iconic designs, these biker trousers combine excellent craftsmanship with a timelessly directional aesthetic.
